Q: Anybody know the average price for replacing a thermostat on a 96' Audi A6 with parts/labor?
I am just trying to get an idea of the range.. I know it is expensive and I have been going to a repair shop that specializes in foreign vehicles but I feel he has been doing shoddy work.. need to find a new shop but want to know a good range before walking in.. thanks..

A: audi sort of blew it with the location of the thermostat on the 2.8 litre v6 thats in your car. Two problems. As someone else already asked, why do you think you need a thermostat ? If your going by the gauge, you might be missled. Your car has multiple sensors for coolant temp (which is actually a GOOD thing for diagnosing heater related problems). Here's how to tell if thermostat is really not working properly. Don't be nervous, you can't harm anything by doing this... 8-) On your climate control system, with the motor running, simultaneously push and hold the recirc and "up arrow" botton. Your display will now point to channel 1. use the "+" button to cycle up to channel 51. Now press the recirc button again. You are now looking at the coolant temp in Celcius. Drive the car and if the temp stays in the 80-90deg range, your thermostat is doing it's job. If the temp drops off while driving, it's stuck open. Hitting the "auto" button or shutting the car off returns the system to normal mode so don't worry. Now, If the thermostat is ok but your gauge is reading low, the ecu is also thinking the car is running cold and stays in "rich" mode. You probably notice your gas mileage isn't what you'd expect and your cats are working overtime. The good news, is the temp sender is cheap (under$50) and any diy'er can replace it. So now you know about design problem number one. Problem number two is, if you really DO have a bad thermostat, it's located behind the timing belt. The part is also under $50 but plan on anywhere betwee an hour and hour and a half of labor. You should be able to find someone to do it for say $250-300 sorry for being so long winded....

Q: Can someone please give me a part number for an audi a6 3.2 front grill filler panel? (05-08)?

Q: audi a6 2.8L performance upgrade help?
hey,....well aight i have a audi a6 2.8l and i was wondering wat kind of performance upgrades can i do without damaging or any risk of dangering of the engine....and how much hp can i get from the part you guyz consider (if possible then where is the best place for a good deal on the upgrade parts)..... thanks...

A: Edit your question and include the year of your A6 The 2.8 motors are really not suited well to be upgraded...most of the parts designed for your car will only provide minuscule performance gains. As far as I know, there are only a handful of chips made for the 2.8, but I do not know anyone who has proven their effectiveness...sorry I would advise you to snoop around the Audi forums to see what other people have done www.audiforums.com audiforum.us www.audi.com/forums

Q: 1997 Audi A6... are there any common problems with this car?
the car has 155,100 miles on it and i know it already needs a new rear end. i have another car just like it that was purchased for parts from a junk yard, so i have the rear end already. would the engine light come on because it recognizes that it needs a new rear end, or is it definitely a totally different problem?

A: The engine light would not come on for anything other than an engine related problem. You should get the codes check and google the error code. Then post the actual problem

Q: Audi just got repaired, now a burning rubber smell?
So I take my Audi (98 A6 Quattro automatic) in to get fixed big time, new timing belt/chain, new brakes for the front, some transmission repairs, and a totally new AC/heater system, oil seals, o ring, They say its all great and fixed. After the drive home (like 18 miles? pretty hilly, going 34-60 the whole way) I notice there is a strong rubber burning stink coming from the car! I popped the hood but couldn't tell the origin. What is it?!! (for reference my tires are new and recently aligned) It seemed to be running just fine. If its the new parts breaking in how long does that last??? I am thinking its the new brakes, but if lasts over 2 days then I am def. taking it back!!

A: For gosh sake drive it back to those clowns tomorrow! It is not normal to have a STRONG burning rubber smell after work has been performed. There is no sense in you sticking your head under the hood, you paid out the ying yang for those guys to fix the car. Good luck.

Q: please help me with my audi question?
i just got a used a6 3.2 and it has a license plate holder, is there any way to buy that black strip with the chrome trim, and if so what's the name of that part?

A: yeah you can purchase it at the dealer. Its called "the front grill filler panel". I didn't like the license plate thing either so i asked for the filler panel when i purchased my car and got it done for free. hope i helped!

Q: Volvo S40 for £4300. Is it worth buying?
Okay, my audi broke down as i described in my other question, and now i want to buy a Volvo S40 2.0D 2005 05reg with 138,000 mileage which is a bit worrying. Overall, the car looks very nice, presents itself great, and has nothing wrong with it. I really want to make sure this is the right car for me and my family. (Last time i bought an audi a6 which was a moneybox which just kept sucking money out of my pocket, maybe because it was owned by 2 teen lituenians) The volvo just looked too good to be true, fully electric windows, mirrors, computer (not the big GPS style one though). So to bring it all together, are Volvo S40 parts cheap? do these cars break down fast? are they durable? The car looked very solid. Thanks in advance, and please check my other audi a6 question if you havent already. I was looking for a long time.. this one is the only local one, is the cheapest in the new shape, has the 2.0D engine (i dont want petrol) and the only one about £100 cheaper is nearly 200 miles away from me. BMW's new shapes cost 6k+, and the old shape ones are ugly. Thanks for helping, but i already deposited money to the guy to keep it for me. I woud still like to hear your opinions on the 2005+ volvo S40 :)

A: You can get a beamer for 4k beamers never die. If you look closely on autotrader they have the exact same car you are looking for but for £3k'ish. I love volvo's. S30 S40.
