Q: HELP! Should I get a used 2004 Acura TSX or Audi A4 or should I get a brand new car?
New car meaning, civic, accord, or the new nissan coupe?

A: I have owned an Audi a Civic and an Accord. All are great cars. If you have the money to maintain an Audi it would be most fun to drive they handle like sports cars. However as they approach 100k miles they become real pains in the neck. Civics are best on gas although if you have any tall friends they won't be comfortable. Personnaly, I would choose an Accord. It is the most balanced car of the four you listed. Good on gas, fits five average sized Americans and handles well. Oh and by the way they can easily last until 250k -300k miles if you maintain them properly.

Q: Does an 02 Audi a4 only use Premium gas or can I use regular unleaded?
I just bought an 02 Audi a4 and when filling up the gas, the label said use Premium and without thinking I used regular unleaded. The next day my car started shaking and I had to press hard on the gas. I relaced the spark plugs and it is better but still shaking. I am wondering if the gas had something to do with it????? it was working FINE before I used the wrong gas..

A: The shaking is probably the computer still running at high octane settings. Its not going to hurt anything if you use regular, there will just be a decrease in power and fuel efficiency.

Q: are audi a4 cars reliable cars because i am thinking about getting a used 2000-2003 audi a4?

A: People make the Audi's out to be worse than they are in terms of reliability. They are not a Honda or a Toyota, but at the same time, they blow modern BMW's and Benz's out of the water in terms of cost of ownership. Like the previous answer, the 1.8turbo is supposedly unreliable, while I'm sure it is less reliable than the non-turbo V6 (which I have in my A4), it is better on gas, and it's tuning capabilities are infinite.

Q: 5w30 oil used in Audi A4 destroyed engine?
The local "Pit Stop" changed the oil in my Audi. Later the manager said it is only the 2nd audi oil change. The attendent was rude when I asked if he knew the name of the oil required. 20 minutes later, my oil light came on, then went off after I checked under hood. Light continued to come on/off. 6 weeks later, it got more frequent. I went to the Pit Stop and they changed the oil again. The light continued on, but they had assured me it was only a problem with the oil light... In September, about 2 months later, the engine made a horrible sound. A mechanic said that he is sure they put the wrong oil in, "5W30 all CLM", because of the price. The mechanic said it should cost $80 to $125 to change Audi's special engine oil. Pit Stop charged me $35.34 both times. What do you think? Is it the wrong oil?

A: 2 issues here... 1) The shop does not know jack and is the wrong oil. 2) Sorry guy, you failed to read the Owner's Manual and says it there that is VW and Audi Specs 502 and 505. The oil is 5W40 or 0W40 and Synthetic. Sorry for been somewhat rude but that is the truth. Anyway, the Oil that I used was Castrol Syntech 5W40. Is one of the ones that is recommended. It says on the can that is approved by Audi and VW. Also on the link it has a list of oils that you can use. You can use Mobil 0W40 also. Oil changes are like 10,000 miles apart, that is why they use these types of oils. They last way longer than any petroleum base. Each can are like $6 a piece. The filter is not that much, just the oil and has a cavern for sump so you might need 6 Qt or more. Check your manual is there. There is not an Audi "special" oil. Is as expensive as using Synthetic oil on any car. You can buy the Oil at Auto Zone, Checkers, Advance Auto Parts, even Wal Mart. Just that you have to read the labels and find the brand that meets the specs, that is all. If you do it yourself, it will be easy over $40 oil change. Wal Mart will change it, but you have to buy the Oil. It might come out about $50 the change. Here where I live, Wal Mart will take the used oil for free. In Germany, you are not allowed to change the oil, except the dealer. Jiffy Lube is none existent. So each oil change are like $125.00 my friend over there, she changes her oil 2 times a year, some people 1 a year. The manual says, 10,000 miles or a Year, whichever comes 1st. At least that is on my Wife's Beetle (it has an In Line 5Cly 2.5L Audi engine). Audi was the 1st car with a Gasoline 5 Cly Engine and was the 2.5 on the 5000S in the USA. Back in 1985 it was changes at 7,500 miles on regular oil. Change that oil ASAP and get the real deal. Sorry guy, read your Owner's Manual, it would saved you tons of money in a mistake. Also, be careful with the coolant. You can mix some colors and some do not.

Q: what is the song that is used in the new audi A4 commercial?
it is the commercial where the cars are in the tunnel and they all move aside for the A4

A: It seems like it was only made for the commercial.

Q: Audi a4 1.8t auto trans does not select reverse.?
I hope someone can help me out here. I bought a used audi a4 1.8t front drive automatic 1997. The transmission at times does not select reverse and while driving does not reach top gear. The selector lights on the dash all stay on. Has anybody out there experienced something similar with one of these cars and how does one fix it? Would appreciate your help.

A: If all your selector lights stay on your transmission is in SAFE mode that means there is probably either an electrical glitch (like a bad multifunction switch or even corroded contacts on the multifunction switch which is located on the left side of the tranny, it should also be a bad wire too the multifunction switch) the other main cause is low transmission fluid. the MFS is common and small slow tranny leaks are also common so either of these could be the cause. I would start with having the fluid checked(its a sealed unit so you have to take it in to check) if the fluid is not low have them check the MFS.

Q: Maybe Buying a Used 2000 Audi A4 2.8 Quattro?? But a Little Hesitant?
So I need a new car. I would LOVE to get this car!! Love it. It has everything I want in a car. Here is some basic info- $7500 (about) Engine: 2.8L V6 FI DOHC 30V (haha I have no idea what that means..) Miles: 98,275 Automatic Transmission And a lot of bonus things that will help with safety and such. That price is right in my price range. I want this car so much! But is it realiable? Is it safe???? Will it not break down on the middle of the highway?? Is it fuel efficient? **HOW MUCH DO YOU THINK REPAIRS (ON AVERAGE) ARE GOING TO COST PER YEAR?*** That is my main concern. I am a safe driver, I have never gotten into an accident or a speeding ticket or anything. But I mean like headlights and such.. how much are they going to cost me?? And by the way, I am a student and I'm trying to convince my parents to let me get this. What are the best reasons I should get this. And then sadly, do you think I should get this car??? Ugh I want it so much!! Ask if you have questions! THANKS!!

A: Audi are very safe and fun cars and are beautiful. Unfortunately, they haven't been the most reliable cars around... 98k miles is alot on a car to buy used so you your due diligence ( CARFAX report, have car independently inspected ) . Please also note that repairs on Audi are very expensive. Check the link for user reviews of that car... the way i approach used cars, if I can deal with the worst review and the worst case scenario, then I feel ok to buy the car... good luck ...

Q: I'm looking into gettin an Audi A4. Which is better / faster, the V6 2.8L or the V4 1.8 Turbo?
I'm looking to buy a used audi a4. I found a 2000 1.8T, but my friend told me the v6 2.8 is better, is that true?

A: As an Audi Technician, I can tell you that the 1.8T is a more reliable engine. I also have driven quite a few of both 1.8T and 2.8 A4s. If you are looking for power, the 1.8T is an easy motor to mod. You could get an APR ECM tune, which changes the wastegate open/close times as well as fuel and ignition maps. It improves power without doing any actual physical engine modification. If you want to go big, APR also offers turbo upgrades and exhaust. Simply replacing the stock K03 turbo with a K04, and an ECM tune can make huge improvements. The 1.8T also gets better MPG and is cheaper to maintain. The 2.8 has some expensive issues to consider. Also, even if you get some sort of warranty on it, many of the 2.8's common problems will not be covered. As most extended warranties do not cover leaks. Make sure you get a Quattro. As an Audi enthusiast, Audi Technician, and Audi owner, I would go with the 1.8T matched with a Quattro drivetrain. By the way, the stock 2.8 isn't much faster than the stock 1.8T

Q: should i buy a used audi??
its a 1998 audi a4 used for about 3k it runs good. are audi cars good?

A: I have a 1998 Audi A6 Quattro that I drive right now with about 75,000 miles which runs good. Although replacement parts do cost a lot and repairs can be costly. Lets just say that if you make at least $35,000 a year and live by yourself you should be okay. If you are going to buy an Audi you have to make sure you keep up with the service checks and replace certain parts when recommended. Plus I put Regular 87 gasoline in my Audi and runs perfect, no problems what so ever. Not unless you have a Turbo engine or a V8 then Premium is a waste of money.

Q: I am going to buy a used car, which one is better mercedes C280 or BMW 5 series or Audi A4?
I am new. This is my first car. I want a luxury car and am confused which one will give less problem in the long run. I ran CARFAX on some cars on a website and the BMW shows lots of servicing done. Is it a bad sign?

A: I recommend getting hold of a Consumer Reports mag that has the used/new car section in it. I have personally found that guide to be pretty darned good. Two cars that we've owned were listed as "used cars to avoid" - and they were right on target with what the problems were! I don't know what years you're talking about, but according to CR, Mercedes just isn't a good bet, period. Even my BIL, who is rolling in the money, got rid of his due to high repair bills. I have a 3 series BMW so don't know much about the 5 series, but I think it would be ok. The A4 seems to have a pretty good track record - I personally would recommend that slightly more than the BMW. It might be a little less expensive as well.

Q: Audi A4 1998 HELP!!!!?
I recently bout a used audi a4 1998...its a 4 cylinder engine 1.8 turbo but i have heard it takes the highest priced gas...is it true or can i fill it up with the middle kind?

A: You can put midgrade in it, only thing it might do is make it run a little more rough, and might even make it a little slower. I have an S4 and when im low on money, or just want to be cheap I put the midgrade in it and its fine, just make sure you always use synthetic oil in it!

Q: I was thinking about buying a used Audi, it's a 2001 A4 that has 60,000 miles on it. how much to fix if breaks?

A: Personally I've never owned one but a friend of mine had several Audi's including an A4. He loved it and never seemed to have any problems with it, not major ones anyway. As for the mileage 60,000 is pretty low for an 8 year old car and Audi's are German and high mileages is very rarely a problem with German cars. Hope that helps

Q: Anyone know of a good INDEPENDENT audi dealer within/around M25 area ?

Q: whats a good oil to use for my 2000 audi a4?
i bought a 2000 audi a4 1.8t its got just over 135000 miles on it and was wondering on opinions of what kind of oil to use in it what brand do you reccomend

A: I would recommend Castrol. In the cold months use 10w30 and in the warmer months use 10w40. I would not recommend switching to synthetic at this point due to the mileage as your engine is used to running with standard oil unless the previous owner used it. Switching at high mileage can sometimes cause issues. On a side note these engines were prone to oil sludge buildup and after repair Audi recommended switching to synthetic but most of the sludge issues occurred before this mileage. Be sure to change your oil every 3000 miles with the standard oil and you should be fine assuming no sludge buildup already.
