Q: Can you use 2.0T parts on a 3.2 Audi A3?
I have an Audi a3 3.2. When i search parts on the internet, they seem to only have parts for the 2.0T. I know the general structure of the car is the same, so if i were to buy....say, an intake or an performance chip, could i use one that is suggested for the 2.0T???
A: No you can't use the dame parts. Although the car is the same, i.e the doors, seats etc, the engine is not. Any engine mods you buy will have to be for the 3.2 otherwise they will be completely useless.
Hope that helps
Q: Help me choose: Audi A3 vs Benz C230 sport vs Pontiac G8 GT?
I'm just having a hell of a problem choosing between these cars. I'm looking for a car that number 1) I will enjoy to drive , 2) better chick appeal , 3) more luxurious. By budget will be max 30K maybe. I'm hung on whether i should buy used but relatively new or brand spanking new from dealer.
A: If you keep your cars for over 3 years, all of these will leave your pocketbooks empty to service.
All 3 are extremely unreliable.
Out of these 3, Mercedes is what you want if you want the best image, the best driving experience and the most luxurious.
I would suggest the BMW 328, Infiniti G35/G37, Lexus ES350, Acura TSX or TL, or even the Audi A4.
These cars will give you the status close to the Mercedes and will be far more reliable in the long-run.
Q: Audi A3's, Any comments????
I would like to buy a used car. I have 5000 gbp in the bank and a 7 mth old baby to consider also. I have recently been looking at Audi a3s and have fallen in love with them, Does anyone know how they are reliability wise.... and If they are worth the money??? Pros and Cons always welcome! x
A: Audi A3s are probebly the best cars in their range
- Their very very reliable, as are most german built cars.
- The diesel 1.9TDI is the best engine they do for a mix of performance and reliability and economy
- Audi is the same company as Volkwagen, Seat and Skoda so they are the prestige section of the group which mean that you get the best comfort, style and performance that the company offers as well as having cheap parts for when it goes wrong (not often)
- They do about 54 miles per gallon
- Produce about 105 bhp which is good in a small car
- Safety rating of 3 or 4
Q: audi dealer discount?
OK, i currently have a test drive in an Audi A3 2.0 T.
2006
19000 miles
leather seats
ipod prep
S Line kit
19" alloys
1 owner
approved used audi
3 door
Firstly how much shoudl I pay for that? I am trading my car in which they have agreed to give me £2500 for.
And secondly, how can I persuade the dealer to knock off some more cash...
Thanks
A: Check out the value of both cars on Glass' website, it'll cost you 3.50 each but its well worth it. The used car market is in a right mess, be prepared to walk away, tell the sales rep you need a better deal or you'll need to "go away and think about it", which a sales rep hears as "I'm off pal, you'll never see me again". Go back a few days later and see what they offer you.
Try and get a years road tax and new mats, or at least £300 more for your trade in.
Parkers Guide price as suggested below isn't recognised in the motor trade, Glass' Guide is the motor traders bible.
Q: Air Conditioning or Climate Control?
I'm thinking of buying a used Audi A3. It has 'Climate Control' - rather than Air Conditioning. The salesman told me that Climate Control is better than aircon but I am not sure. Can anyone give me a better idea of the difference between the two please?
Thank you!
A: They are the exact same thing. Just like, Its not an Air Bag, its a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint. And just look at how many different names there are for Traction Control (Electronic Skid control, Stability Control, stabilitrack, intellitrack, etc)
Fancy words for the same things.
Auto A/C and Manual A/C are both Climate Controls. But if you really, really, really want to get technical. A/C usually only describes the cooling part, not the heat or ventilation....whereas Climate Control can encompass all those sub-systems, as well as heat/cool seats and steering wheel, defrost and anything else that controls how is feels inside the car.
Q: Are audi main dealers full service for audi's that costly?
Basically I've had a nasty 2 weeks with 2 different mechanics. My brakes have been changed all around on my audi a3 (1997) 1.8 SE but the break dash board light is still on and also the abs light is on. I had some jamex shocks put on the car too. The back are fine but the front ones seem to caused a conking/knocking kind of noise that happens when I drive round corners. It's like 1 knock to turn then the same knock happens again when I straighten up.
I just want to have my car serviced and have these issues sorted. There is also air escaping from the exhaust system I had fitted. Its between the backbox and the pipe after that. I dont think any exhaust seal/paste was used.
I am based in London/Essex and want these problems sorted plus a full service and do not want to get ripped off at the same time. Can anybody recommend any decent garages in the london/essex area?
I want to find a mechanic and stick to them instead of using my car as a test dummy.
How much would you say a full service would cost at a main dealer (a3 owners)
A: Sounds like the mechanics you have used are not up to much!!!!!!
The issue with the brake pads, sounds like they have fitted after market pads that do not come with the wear indicator wiring. The way to sort this out is to run a wire from the one side of the now lose cable plug to the other, this will make the cars ECU think that the brake pads have the correct wire.
The back box leaking sound like shoddy workmanship, take it back and get them to fix it.
The knock from the front suspension sounds like the shock and springs have been incorrectly assembled. The coil spring sits on the rotating plate at the top of the shock and the non rotation plate at the bottom of the shock. Because the shock is angled the spring will pull the top plate out of alignment resulting in the spring building tension of centre from the centre shaft of the shock. When this happens as you turn the wheels tension builds up in the spring until the spring jumps round, this is the noise that you hear at the front as single knock. The correct way to prevent this it to locate the rubber bump stop bung in the top of the rotating plate (Easy Fix).
Audi are expensive for service work but there work is guaranteed and they have the correct diagnostic equipment to re-set your service light and fault find.
Q: What kinda car do you have and how much petrol do you use each month???
I have an Audi A3 and use about £70 petrol eah month, its just wayyyyyyyyyyyyy bad!!!
A: none
Q: audi a3 clutch problems?
right dunno if anyone can help.. my car struggles to get into reverse gear crunchs and clutch bites right at the bottom i tried bleeding the slave changing the fluid replacing the slave weird thing is its worse when warm the clutch is fine doesnt slip but i know this setup uses a dual mass flywheel which i am unfamiliar with and maybe this is the problem anyone help
right there is nothing wrong with the master slave or pipework inbetween deff no air in the system and it cant be oil on friction plate because clutch is stong doesnt slip at all!!! think im gonna have to strip it just wondered if anyone had this probably before
A: The problem is very unlikely to be your flywheel it sounds as if your clutch diaphragm spring is either cracked or distorted.Sorry but it sounds like a gear box /clutch job not to bad .The scheduled time is 2.6hrs hope this helps Regards Mick UK.
Q: which car to buy?
here is my list. all around 20000$ (even used ones) -
1 - new honda accord/coupe
2- new scion tc
3 - new mazda a3
4- used bmw
5 - used infiniti g35/37
6- used lexus es
7- used audi a3
8- used s2000/miata
which one do you suggest to go for?
A: The scion tc's are really nice. I had a Mazda once I loved that car I was so bummed when I had to get rid of it.Honda's are also really good cars. In the long run you need to buy something that is going to suit your needs and that you will be happy with. Also be sure that you're not going to starve or end up living in it because the payments are too high.

Q: What is the best practical sports car?
I own a saab viggen now, but am interested in something newer as my car is a '99. What sports car has the best combination of handling, speed, fun to drive, space, and gas mileage? I have ideas (audi a3, v70 r, m3, etc) but am wondering what others think. Oh yea, I want to spend around 25K and dont mind buying used. Thanks!
A: E36 chasis BMW M3 sedan is the most practical.
If you have more money to spend then the old model M5.
Q: Audi Dynamic Headlight Issue?
When I start up my Audi A3 my Xenon headlights do not adjust to level. They both will randomly remain aimed downwards. They used to do a sort of systems check, first going upwards and then down. When I drive the car the problem becomes more annoying in that when I accelerate, the light moves down the road and must appear to oncoming traffic as though I have full beam on. When I press the brake the lights come back along the road back towards the car maybe only 15 feet infornt of it which is quite dangerous as I cant see very far when I brake. This car has an automatic dynamic headlight control system but I don't see any faults or lights indicating a fault on the dashboard. I dont think its a motor issue with the lights as they both move in tandom, its not as though one light is ok and the other isnt. There must be a sensor somewhere that is faulty. Does anyone know how this system works and could point me in the right direction to see if there are any visible issues or some useful tips? Its a 2004 A3 model.
A: my mate has the S3....ill ask him tomorrow and see if he han shed some light on the subject...pun not intended...
couldnt you disconect the wiring plug from the motors when there in the right possition?...it wont stop the fault but atlest they wont go up/down by themselves..
Q: Why BMW 1 Series is the only one using rear wheel drive among the whole BMW lines ?
I thought rear wheel drive cars are only for racing and performance car ? But why, just the BMW 1 Series is using RWD, but the other series didn't use ? All series like 3,5,6,7 are much more better and need more performance than 1 Series, right ? But why 1 Series is the one only using it, since it is the cheapest among them ? I am so confused...By the way, may i know, Audi A3 and BMW 1 Series which one is cheaper ?
OMG...check this out, it written, 1 Series is the only one with RWD engine ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_1_Series
A: All BMW are RWD rear wheel drive except the X which is all wheel drive. What the articale is refer to is the BMW1 is the only RWD in its "class." Meaning compared to other small cars such as the Golf, AUDI A3, Mazda 3, etc. Not other BMWs. It is the only small car with a inline mounted engine. The Golf etc are FWD front Wheel Drive with transverse mounted engines.
Q: Why do current hybrid systems employ a gasoline component, rather than a diesel component?
Diesel engines run more efficiently than gasoline engines, and, given the fact that current hybrid vehicles like the Toyota Prius or Honda Civic with their systems can not even match the fuel efficiency of way better performing, European turbo-diesels of equal size (e.g. VW Golf & Passat Tdi, Audi A3 & A4 Tdi, various Peigeots, Renaults, Citroens, Fiats, BMW 120d, etc.), I wonder why they didn't choose a diesel as a component of their hybrid systems over the current gasoline engines used in that combination. Or are they just doing the "hybrid notion" for PR purposes, and don't want to get "too efficient" anyway?
A: I would lean towards the emissions. Diesels produce a higher level of large particulate matter which don't lend them to a simple catalytic converter. They would quickly become clogged.
Diesels may be more fuel efficient but are currently dirtier than gasoline powered engines.
Q: My Volkswagen Golf rev counter keeps Jumping up & down..Is that normal?
I've got a Volkswagen Golf 2001 (mk 4)
Milleage 78,000
Everytime the car is stationary the rev counter keeps jumping up & down but It does not go over 1000rpm. Is that normal?
My mate use to have a Audi a3 and he use to have the same problem. he says that the common fault with VW.
Anyone else experiencing the same problem?
Or anyone knows what the problem may be. I took it to a garage but they said thats normal as long as it stays within the 1000rpm
A: i had the same problem 2 weeks a go and it turned out to be a vacuum leak in one of the engine hose pipes.IF you open the bonnet and lisen for a hissing sound like an air leak or just check all the hoses at the back of the engine to see if any have holes or have collasped from age.allso have the cam belt checked
hope this helps
